The quest is over, at least for one day. As the subject winds their way back to their home (or at least to a quiet place of rest), they reflect on the day.
The positives are toned-down versions of the high spots from the previous piece fading in and out gently and ponderously. The occasional negatives are repeated each time followed by complete silence as if each arising presence gently offends the psyche but becomes accepted for being whatever it is.
A quiet and reflective piece, mainly calm but not meditative as in the opening piece. It contains echoes of all the other three pieces and chews them over learning from each experience.
In general this is not a harsh critical piece. It is rather a practical and ordered stock take of the other pieces with quiet celebration and joy overcoming occasional moments of sadness.
The piece ends with a gradual reminder of the signature phrase that was introduced in the first movement and which reappeared throughout the suite. In this piece it is clearer than ever building to a crescendo as justification of all that is life.
