I had recently been talking about the inner and outer purpose of life at my Practical Philosophy group, so it really caught my eye when I picked up Clive's Talent book and the page opened at a quote about the inner purpose by Eckhart Tolle. I've just opened my copy of New Earth and this quote shone out at me...
"Your inner purpose is to awaken. It is as simple as that."
Eckhart Tolle in New Earth (Awakening to your life's purpose)
For me reading the works of sages like the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle and Neale Donald Walsch highlight that your inner purpose is to be your true Self living in the now and your outer purpose is to find your life purpose and follow it.
"True enlightenment is nothing but the nature of one's own Self being fully realised."
Insight from the Dalai Lama
According to the Dalai Lama the outer purpose of life is to help others. This helping of others life purpose is reflected by the vast majority of the clients that I have helped discover that thing that makes their heart sing through the magic of Life Mapping.
How do you see the inner and outer purpose of life?
In response to your question, I agree with what you say above and would go one stage further and suggest that we have only one purpose and that is to connect fully to our true self. In essence this is the inner purpose you describe. So what of the outer purpose? I see this as being not separate from, but rather a physical manifestation resulting from the inner purpose. In other words if we are truly connected, our outer purpose will simply arise. This is great because it means we simply have to connect and bring the presence that arises from connection into all we do.
I hope this doesn't sound pedantic, it is intended to help us put the focus where it belongs and let the dance continue in a way that is beautiful and meaningful without being a burden. Happy weekend.
As you say, Clive, the key purpose is to find and be our true Self.
What I described as the outer purpose is what we do once we are being our true Self.
…A case of Being and doing.
I too find that once you find your true Self your outer life purpose will simply arise. This is how the wonderful people I work with, find their purpose. Alignment between the two brings the beauty to the dance.
Happy weekend to you too, Clive and all who sail in this sacred space..
